Careers & Opportunities
Join Ota News
Ota News welcomes enquiries from students, graduates, NYSC members, aspiring journalists, writers, bloggers and others looking to gain practical experience in digital media and online publishing.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people who are enthusiastic about news, current affairs and stories relating to Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria and beyond.
Opportunities
At present, opportunities with Ota News are voluntary (remote work).
Depending on your interests and abilities, you may contribute by:
- Researching and writing news and feature articles
- Reporting on relevant local, national or international stories
- Developing original ideas for articles and other online content
- Contributing to topics covered by Ota News
- Supporting the wider development of our online publication
You do not necessarily need previous professional journalism experience. What matters most is an ability to research information carefully, write clearly and accurately, meet deadlines, and follow our editorial standards.
Build Your Publishing Experience
One of the main benefits of contributing to Ota News is the opportunity to see your work published.
Articles accepted for publication will normally appear under the contributor’s byline. This provides practical experience in research, journalism, writing and digital publishing, as well as the opportunity to build a portfolio of published work.
All submissions are subject to our normal editorial review, and submitting an article does not guarantee publication.
Students, Interns & NYSC Members
We are happy to hear from students, graduates and people seeking practical experience, including those interested in NYSC-related opportunities.
If you are looking for a formal, paid employment position, please note that the opportunities currently described on this page are voluntary. Prospective contributors should also check that this type of arrangement meets the requirements of their school, programme or service placement.
How to Apply
There is no need to email us first to ask whether you can apply. Simply send us a submission for assessment.
Your submission should include:
1. A brief introduction about yourself
Tell us your name, what you currently do or study, your area of interest, and why you would like to contribute to Ota News.
2. A writing submission
Your submission should relate to one of the main categories covered by Ota News:
NEWS | POLITICS | CRIME | TECH | EDUCATION | FEATURES | HEALTH | RELIGION | ENTERTAINMENT
We encourage prospective contributors to use these categories as a guide when choosing a subject for their submission. Your article should be relevant to our readership and demonstrate your ability to research a subject and present it clearly and accurately.
You are welcome to suggest an original story or article idea within any of these areas, particularly where you believe there is an interesting or under-reported angle.
What Happens Next?
Once we receive your introduction and submission, our editorial team will assess the material.
We will consider factors including the quality and originality of the writing, accuracy, research, relevance to our readership, and the candidate’s ability to follow our editorial standards.
If we believe the opportunity is a good fit, we will contact you with further information.
Please do not send multiple emails asking whether your submission has been received or whether you can contribute. We will respond after the material has been assessed.
We look forward to hearing from people who want to learn, contribute and help tell important stories.
