He said further that unfortunately, the pioneer visionary of the Mission, Bro Donald Douglas Baughman (1922-1989) a missionary to Nigeria was killed by armed robbers on that very ground of WACM, Tarmac Road, Dalemo, Sango Ota on August 31st, 1989.
He appreciated the pastors God is using to carry-on His work at WACM, especially Pastor Jeffery Taiwo and others viz-a-viz the far, God has taken the Mission.
The former Senator, who represented Ogun West Senatorial District in the immediate past Senate, for four years regretted the state of medical care in the country, adding that Nigeria is not in proper shape now. Prince Gbolahan Dada lamented the scarcity or non-availability of jobs in the country, coupled with the hyper inflation.
He recalled that when he was growing up, he could still remember that pure, potable, clean, drinkable water flowed directly from pipes and taps in people’s homes, for there was nothing like borehole because government pumped water through clean pipes into domestic homes from Water-Work Grids.
He thanked God for the rapid development of Ota and appreciated the establishment of a branch of Shoprite in Ota while he appealed to more Industrialists, Entrepreneurs and Businessmen to move- in and establish their businesses in Ota, adding that Ota still has space and land to accommodate them.
The former Senator is of a strong view that Dalemo Area needs a Police post and promised that he would do something about that. He also pledged to see into doing something on grading of their roads.
In his opening address, the chairman, Board of Trustees of WACM, Evangelist Ernest Evak relayed the history of the Mission. He recalled that the Mission started over 3 decades ago, 1984 to be precise.
Evak stated that the event of officially commissioning the Medical Center was principally to revive the memory of Bro Donald Douglas Baughman who was martyred right on that land.
Evangelist Evak enumerated reasons for establishing the “Ogba Oyinbo Medical Center” as it is fondly called today. He listed them as follows:
(1) To have a Medical Outpost in that Zone
(2) To build something that is a bit different from the conventional Health Centers that dot the land
(3) To put in place a Medical Center that will consist of diverse Clinics like Theatre, Pharmacy, Maternity, Eye Center, Dental Orthodontic etc
In other words, according to Evak, the vision is to have a complete General Hospital. He promised that the Hospital will be driven by service rather than by profit.
Evak said further that the vision of the Hospital includes a School of Nursing as an appendage, as time goes on.
He also added that the Hospital will be headed by a qualified and experienced seasoned medical doctor supported by able Nurses and Matrons.
The Administrator of WACM also spoke on the occasion, corroborating Evangelist Ebak regarding the vision of WACM.
In a related development, the management of Christian Memorial Medical Center, CMMC have built perimeter fence around the Mission Compound.
According to Pastor Jeffrey Taiwo, Missionary Walter C and Sister Edna Anne Smith, Bro Ed Nichols as well as Bro MA Sotunde (chairman), all of blessed memory played major roles in the actualization of West Africa Christian Mission WACM.
Pastor Taiwo also appreciated the efforts and prayers of brethren in Nigeria and the United States.
